CDR Solution Provider SaaS Alerts Rolls Out A Managed Service For MSPs

Cloud security is getting more and more complicated for MSPs as their customers’ use of software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications climbs. That’s why SaaS Alerts is introducing a new service to manage its cloud detection and response (CDR) platform for MSP partners. With the Managed SaaS Alerts solution, SaaS Alerts specialists will optimize each partner’s SaaS Alerts platform to optimize their security posture management and automatically respond to account compromises.

Jim Lippie

Many MSPs don’t have “the internal resources to properly take advantage of all of the resources in the platform,” SaaS Alerts CEO Jim Lippie tells MSP Success. The platform has grown more complex as the solution has evolved, he explains. “In January of ’21, we had 25 different events that we monitored for over a few different applications—365, Google Workspace, Salesforce, Dropbox. Today, we’ve got nearly 300 events that we monitor for and alert on and 24 applications. On top of that we’ve introduced the [Fortify] 365 configuration piece. We’ve introduced Respond, which is automated remediation, and we have a very comprehensive reporting module. For the average MSP, it’s difficult for them to keep up with all that.”

The introduction of Respond about two years ago evolved the SaaS Alerts platform to CDR, a relatively new category that started in the enterprise, and like other IT trends, has been moving down to the SMB space, Lippie says.

“Cloud detection is something we’ve been doing all along,” he says. “When we came out with our Respond module, we entered the response category to put us squarely in the CDR camp.”

He adds, “I think MSP’s have come around to the fact that cloud detection and response is a place that they need to be thoroughly invested in because the traditional threats that we’ve been watching for are not the threats that are currently compromising their customers. It’s the SaaS-based threats. We were the pioneer in this space.”

What’s Included In The Service

Lippie says the managed offering is something partners have been asking for. “It was definitely feedback from partners, which is how we arrived at implementing it,” he explains. “They were saying, ‘SaaS Alerts has become the most important tool that I have in terms of combating business email compromise and token hijacking and other SaaS threats.’ They’ve come to realize that SaaS applications, specifically 365, is the No. 1 threat vector associated with all their customers. There are MSPs out there that want to leverage all the power of the platform, but actually have us manage all the capabilities of it.”

Some key features of the new Managed SaaS Alerts solution include:

  • 24/7/365 Monitoring – A SaaS Alerts dedicated team will continuously monitor security events from various sources within the platform. This includes SaaS Alerts’ proprietary software and databases.
  • Incident Analysis and Triage – SaaS Alerts experts will analyze security incidents, conduct initial triage, and escalate them to the MSP as needed for swift resolution.
  • Monthly Reporting – SaaS Alerts will provide MSPs with detailed monthly reports highlighting any significant changes to their SaaS Alerts configuration and any actions that were taken to mitigate or eliminate threats.
  • Proactive Security Enhancements – The SaaS Alerts team will implement new SaaS Alerts functionality when released.
  • Incident Documentation – SaaS Alerts analysts will document and report incidents and resolutions for MSPs to convey to their customers.

Lippie says the MSP partner will own the customer relationship and SaaS Alerts will be behind the scenes. “We do not interface with their customer,” he says. “They interface with their customer.”
