Syncro today expanded its platform capabilities into the identify security arena and deepened its foray into the Microsoft world with the introduction of Syncro Cloud Backup, an integrated backup and restore solution for Microsoft 365 and Entra ID. The vendor says the new service helps MSPs and IT teams protect users and identities and ensure rapid recovery from data loss or identity threats.
“Identity is really the new security perimeter and Syncro Cloud backup is the first line of defense and the last line of defense,” says Michael George, Syncro CEO.

Syncro Cloud Backup follows on the heels of Syncro’s announcement of XMM in April, which integrated Microsoft 365 multitenant management with its RMM and PSA into a unified platform. XMM also integrates with Microsoft Secure Score, Defender Antivirus, and Entra ID, and automates Microsoft 365 compliance monitoring, security hygiene, and risk assessments.
George says Syncro has been “working really closely with Microsoft and providing a new level of security there, and so this was a very natural next step for us, which is securing Entra ID.”
He adds, “Cloud backup and infrastructure backup in particular in and around the Microsoft space is really largely an untapped and unaddressed area, so that’s why we’re launching. It is definitely where the market’s going as opposed to where it’s been.”
A Look Inside Syncro Cloud Backup
Syncro developed the Cloud Backup solution internally. “It was something partners have been asking for, says Dee Zepf, chief product officer. “Our partners were asking us to make it simple for them, integrate it, make it so they could bill for it, make it so it was as easy to set up as the current Entra ID sync we have.”

The new solution allows MSPs to configure and restore backups for Entra ID infrastructure such as users, groups, roles, and policies, as well as Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams. New users are added automatically to the backup service.
In addition, organizations can meet cyber insurance requirements with encrypted data stored in Azure data centers in the United States or Canada.
In the event of a data loss incident, the solution allows granular restores for everything from a single email or file to an entire business’s Entra ID configuration.
“It’s really a set-it-and-forget-it backup solution,” Zepf explains. “You can set it up once to automatically back up and it will back up not only your entire Entra ID infrastructure, but also all of your Microsoft 365 data as well.”
She continues, “It allows you to back up and restore an entire tenant or parts of a tenant … you can restore the whole tenant to a new location if you need to as well, which is pretty unique.”
Ease of use and the ability to capture recurring revenue were goals, she adds. “Inside of Syncro, we’ve made it super easy to set this up so that if a new user joins one of your clients, you can set it so they’re automatically backed up. … and we have it tightly integrated with the billing system for MSPs to bill their clients out for this.”
Pricing is around $1.90 per-user, per-month, Zepf says, which includes unlimited storage under a fair-use policy.
What’s on the Syncro Roadmap?
Asked if Syncro has any plans to expand the Cloud Backup product to support Google Workspace, Zepf says they are focused on Microsoft 365 and Entra ID for now. “For the foreseeable future, it will be us enhancing this solution, making sure it covers all the cases, making sure it’s completely simple,” she says.
George adds, “Microsoft represents 98% of the operating system in the small to medium business. So we are indexing in very, very heavily there. I think you’re going to see us continue to work more closely and more deeply with Microsoft before you’ll see us go spread out and do these things with Google.”
He says he believes MSPs are approaching a paradigm shift to work within the core Microsoft assets, and Syncro is working to make those assets usable, consumable, and multitenant. “We’re simplifying the Microsoft stack essentially for this market.”
