The payment process is a business-critical component to a successful MSP business, and Baxter Lanius is on a mission to take the pain out of getting paid. “At the end of the day, cash flow is king,” says Lanius, the founder and CEO of Alternative Payments. “You have to pay your own bills, and you have to meet payroll. If there are any delays in the system it creates friction.”
Founded in September 2021, Alternative Payments is a B2B payments and checkout infrastructure provider. The company is focused on digitally transforming underserved industries such as MSPs, helping them get paid faster, streamlining accounts receivable, and enhancing the end customer experience. The platform integrates with PSAs, accounting, and ERP systems. The company raised $22 million in Series A funding in April 2025, with backing from investors like MissionOG and Third Prime.
New Partner Program
Now, Alternative Payments has launched a partner program to help MSPs help their customers with their own payments systems, with a revenue share model. “Not only are MSPs under-invested in finance and payment automation and this type of financial technology, their clients are as well,” says Lanius. “And PCI compliance is obviously a very, very critical compliance standard for credit card data and … it’s the responsibility of the MSP to hold your clients accountable for these compliance protocols.”
He adds, “Our partner program is really working with MSPs and their end clients to solidify a best-in-class standard for how that information is stored.”
Lanius drills down into the new partner program revenue share model in this episode of Partner Playbook with Tonya Gentry of MSP Success/Big Red Media. He also explains how Alternative Payments is automating the quote-to-cash and reconciliation process with a white-labeled system for MSPs, and shares that MSPs can expect white-glove service from the company, which includes fast response time and educational assets. Plus, he reveals what types of MSPs they look for and how to best benefit from a partnership with Alternative Payments.
