Cloud Security Alliance: Research Reveals Critical Gaps in SaaS Security

SaaS security is no longer an afterthought, but organizations are struggling to keep pace with the complexities and lack a unified approach, according to new research from the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA). Distributed adoption, inconsistent tools, and fragmented processes leave critical gaps in visibility, identity management, and third-party access.

The State of SaaS Security Report: Trends and Insights for 2025-2026, commissioned by Valence Security, find that 55% of respondents say employees are adopting SaaS tools without security’s involvement and 57% report they are grappling with fragmented SaaS security administration.

Identity and access management (IAM) remains a challenge too. More than half (58%) of respondents say enforcing proper privilege levels is difficult, and 54% lack automation for lifecycle management.

Organizations’ fragmented SaaS security strategies include vendor-native tools (69%), general-purpose solutions like cloud access security brokers (43%), and manual audits (46%).

The report recommends that organizations adopt a more unified approach that addresses core challenges like discovery, posture management, threat detection, and risk remediation.

The good news is, SaaS security is a top priority for 86% of organizations, with 76% of respondents saying they are increasing their budgets this year.
