Cavelo CEO Looks to Accelerate Growth with First Channel Chief Appointment

Attack surface management platform vendor Cavelo wants MSPS to know it’s now in accelerator mode, announcing its first channel chief today, industry veteran Larry Meador. “You don’t bring on a channel chief until you have a certain amount of success in the channel,” says James Mignacca (pictured above), CEO of the 4-year-old Ontario-based company.

He adds,” MSPs buy from vendors they can trust. And so we do a lot for our customers and we will continue to, but adding someone like Larry who is a trusted person in the channel is perfect timing for us and just adds to our journey.”

Larry Meador

Meador is a familiar face to many in the channel, having held channel chief and other partner-facing roles at Infima, DataStream, CNET, and others. He says he feels “at home” in the Cavelo role already, having worked informally as an advisor to the company over the last few months, joking that the young staff already calls him “Uncle Larry.”

What Does Cavelo Offer MSPs?

Cavelo provides a comprehensive platform with modules for data discovery and classification, vulnerability management, identity access management, and asset discovery. Founded in 2020, Cavelo launched its partner program in 2022 and is channel-only, working with hundreds of MSPs and deploying around 40,000 agents, according to Mignacca.

Mignacca, a serial entrepreneur, acquired an MSP 15 years ago, evolving it to an MSSP before eventually selling it and starting a vulnerability risk assessment company that was acquired by Arctic Wolf in 2018. With that background, he launched Cavelo.

“The vision was very simple,” Mignacca says. “We are going to help MSPs become MSSPs, effectively giving them the cybersecurity offerings that they need and want, to have it turnkey, and them not having to burden the company from adding expensive resources and then going and onboarding and paying for expensive enterprise-grade software. So we have a platform that has modules that is enterprise grade.”

He adds, “We’re built for the channel. We offer training quarterly reviews with our customers. We help with sales from sales and marketing. One thing that’s changed—and the timing’s perfect for Larry—is we’ve just launched our Cavelo community. … We are also working on a more formal way of helping our customers with their go-to-market.”

Cavelo licenses that platform on both a monthly and quarterly basis.

Building Out the Partner Program

Meador will be building out the partner program. “My marching orders are to get out there and expand our presence and build relationships with new MSPs and MSPs [that are current partners] and drive brand recognition and strengthen Cavelo’s presence in the channel,” says the new Cavelo channel chief.

Cavelo is also launching a partner advisory council, “and potentially partner referrals,” says Meador. “So I’m going to help them get that put together fairly quickly.”

Cavelo’s Road Map

Cavelo has already gone through one round of seed funding, and Mignacca says they’ll be looking to do more fundraising this year. Also on the roadmap, he says, is the potential addition of automated remediation to the platform.

Plus, Mignacca says, “What we’re working on this year is deeper integration into workflow PSA workflows. We’re currently a ConnectWise partner. We’re currently integrate into their PSA. We do ticketing today. What we want to do is be able to make it so that it’s easier for existing ConnectWise customers to be able to effectively hit a button and it kicks off the workflow for patching, for example. And so we have some of that functionality today, and we’re just going to continue to finesse that and make sure we are really listening to our customers.”

Mignacca says Cavelo is agnostic and works with other PSAs as well, such as ServiceNow.

“At the end of the day, what we want to do is make an MSP’s life easier.”

Mignacca says MSPs can expect to see Cavelo at a lot more industry events this year. One place you can check them out is at TMT’s Annual IT Sales & Marketing Boot Camp.
